Flight over Valdichiana

The Tuscan hills are the setting for a 100 kilometer long valley, the Valdichiana . Flanked by hills and mountains, this valley stretches from Arezzo to Chiusi. Its name is derived from the Chiana river and is the birthplace of the Chianina , the gigantic cattle which have tilled the land for centuries. Since ancient times the Etruscans designed an irrigation and water disposal system in order to make the region habitable.

Sightseeing at Valdichiana

The Romans recognized the value of the system and refined it. But after the fall of the Roman Empire , the canals and locks fell into disuse and the valley turned into an unliveable swamp. During the Middle Ages, and especially during the Renaissance, the irrigation works were resumed, so the Valdichiana could become habitable and fertile again.

The movie will soon be online
