La Valle del Gigante Bianco is a bull’s eye

“Sometimes we have to refuse people”

For a second time, the Amici della Chianina are organizing La Valle del Gigante Bianco, during the beginning of June. It is a three-day event that promotes the Chianina. Giovanni Corti, president of the organization and spiritual father on the success of the event

Since there wasn’t yet an event in the Valdichiana, the place of origin, the Amici decided to organize La Valle del Gigante Bianco. “We decided that the population needed to be informed about the animal so much research had been devoted to. Above all the extraordinary taste and quality of the Chianina meat had to be held in the spotlight,” Corti explains.

A large crowd

Last year the event was a big success. “The most important day was Sunday, when 8000 to 10000 people attended the event," Corti explains. Attendance was so high that organizers had to turn people down for certain events.

“For the dinner in the evening we could only serve 150 people. You can’t invite more people or you run the risk that the quality of the meal offered decreases,” thus Corti.

Child friendly

Attendance was high and a variety of visitors was welcomed . “Both the farmers and people just interested visited our event. Also students of the agriculture department came for one day,” the president recalls. To make the event attractive to kids as well, a lot of small and playful activities were organized. “They can participate in games at different locations and they can dress up. This year we will organize an exhibition of paintings made by children from 6 to 14 years of age.

It is also important to show them the importance of the Chianina culture. Our children must continue this tradition,” Corti says.

Future perspectives

The Amici hope that their event will enjoy prestige among people from all over the Valdichiana in the future. “It would be nice if more events like La Valle dell Gigante Bianco were organized, so we could give greater publicity to the Chianina,” Corti emphasizes.
